a samsung supplies almost 500. we think if apple do sign with major carriers like china mobile, like ntd.com, that can be a driver. then finally one more thing that can juice earnings is to have $137 billion of cash. $40 billion of that is on -- we expect the company to become more aggressive with the cash distribution and buybacks over the next 12 to 18 months. in terms of -- this is where i do agree with the other speaker. it is going to take time to repair this. we think an iphone 5 refresh comes out in june. a low end iphone which i would highlight is not in anybody's estimates today may come out in september. and the buybacks in q4. but the issue being there's not much in the next few months. even i would concede. >> jeff, what about all that? a lot of positives for apple here. >> let's talk about china growth for a minute. emerging market growth in general is going to have a lot to do with the price point that apple is going to be able to deliver their products. when we saw walmart come out with the iphone and prices lower, you had to see that there was an issue in margins. i would

'm a little bit concerned about their ability to continue to dominate in the way they have with samsung and these other companies at their heels now. sandra: hank you are pretty much positive on equities across the board which means i can assume that you probably like technology. with all this news on apple's decline and dell's big pop today on all the speculation, where do you fall in the tech sector? >> well, look, first of all, we prefer companies that pay a dividend, so apple falls right into that. dell does not. we do own apple. we purchased apple shortly after they initiated their first dividend. and we like apple both for the intermediate and long-term and believe the story is intact. this is a secular growth area, talking about smart phones and tablets and apple is going to be a major part of this growing pie. sure, they have competition. but the best part about apple is compared to tech, let's say, in the late 90s is there's no valuation headwind. valuation at 10 times earnings, there abouts, even maybe a little bit less, is not a headwind to this stock. so we think you can com

think will move the needle for investors, blackberry 10, apple iphone 6 or the launch of a samsung galaxy s 4? >> i think if you think about apple changing their iphone cadence potentially from one product a year to two products a year, which is something we might be seeing, that could be the biggest move for investors. if apple speeds up their product portfolio to counter companies like samsung that will put a rocket engine under apple there. >> yes, it will get people to buy these products, gene, but my concern as an invest certificate argument to be made is that after, what six months or so, then that's when you start getting savings in terms of sol automatic from any new products you start shortening these cycles you can won't get that scale that they have had with past products. gene? >> a fair concern. if you look at the street estimates for margin, 42% for 2013, 45% for the last cycle. in some ways, guidance about gross mar joins anticipate what you talked about. >> apple doesn't quickly obsolete its older products. the slightly older products become what occupies the lower
